Coronavirus Outbreak : USNS Comfort hospital ship arrives in New York harbor
The USNS Comfort arrived this Monday, March 30 at NYV. where is the front of the coronavirus outbreak in the United States. It is carrying a message to all New Yorkers that the Navy is “with you” and “remains engaged in this fight,” said Rear Admiral John Mustin.
It is the Army hospital ship, which contains 1,000 beds. also a dozen operating rooms and a medical laboratory. It also has a pharmacy and more, sanitary facilities.
It sailed to the port of New York City for the first time since the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001.
It has a crew of 1,200 people and will serve as a referral hospital for non-COVID-19 patients currently admitted to ground hospitals. This frees up space in these facilities so that local medical professionals can face the growing pandemic.
