The Lincoln Memorial<\/strong> is located at the opposite end of the Capitol, on the National Mall. It is one of the best and most important monuments to see in Washington, and also one of the best known on the planet and most visited on the planet.<\/span><\/p>\n It was created between 1914 and 1922 to honor the memory of the 16th President of the United States,<\/strong> Abraham Lincoln<\/a>. The building is huge, shaped like a Doric Greek temple, and has a total of 36 columns, each 10 meters high. These columns symbolize the number of states at the time of Lincoln’s death. The architect of the monument was Henry Bacon.<\/span><\/p>\n
