History of Caf\u00e9 Procope: Literary and Revolutionary<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\r\n

The History of Caf\u00e9 Procope is as follows: In 1686 when Louis XIV reigned over France from the palace of Versailles<\/strong>, in Paris<\/strong> <\/a>the Cafe Procope (Oldest Coffee Shop<\/strong><\/em>) opened its doors. Just 20 years after the introduction of coffee in the court of Louis XIV.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

An Italian<\/a> <\/strong>named Francesco Procopio Dei Coltelli<\/strong> opened an establishment near Saint-Germain-des-Pr\u00e9s where this infusion would be tested in society. The establishment was opened to sell coffees and ice cream, specialties that the Italians exported to the main European capitals<\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\r\n

Three years later, the installation of the recent Com\u00e9die Fran\u00e7aise<\/strong> on the same street attracted the show’s clientele.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

Diderot<\/strong> conceived between his walls (according to the legend of the Caf) his Encyclop\u00e9die and Benjamin Franklin<\/strong>,<\/a> wrote the Constitution of the United States.<\/strong><\/span>

Revolutionary Caf\u00e9: Danton, Marat<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\r\n

The Club of the Cordeliers, who met here, with Danton and Marat<\/strong> as main figures. It was a revolutionary focus.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

The Phrygian cap was exhibited in the Coffee shop Procope<\/strong> for the first time, and from here also left the slogan for the attack on the Tuileries on August 10, 1792.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

The original Procope Coffee Shop<\/strong>\u00a0closed at the end of the 19th century and reopened as a caf\u00e9-restaurant in the 50s of the 20th century. The mention “since 1686” at the door is a half truth, although the decoration that refers to the times of the Revolution makes the restoration not noticeable<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\r\n

It remains in the Rue de l’Ancienne Com\u00e9die 13<\/strong>, in the sixth arrondissement of the city. The nearest subway station is Od\u00e9on. The current Procope kept the link with the letters of the old caf\u00e9 and organizes literary prizes.<\/span><\/p>\r\n
