The Natural Reserve Canyon of Lumbier (Foz de Lumbier) is a canyon<\/strong> formed by the Irati river in Navarra – Spain. It is very close to the mouth of the Arag\u00f3n<\/a> river. The force of the water opened a narrow, high gorge of more than a Mile in length between the Rocks of Lumbier.<\/span><\/p>\n
There a multitude of birds nest<\/strong>, among which the vultures<\/strong> are the most numerous. Running between almost vertical walls 450 feet to\u00a0 1200 feet high.<\/span><\/p>\n

The human being dug a tunnel through which the Pamplona-Sang\u00fcesa industrial railroad<\/strong> circulated. That old railway infrastructure<\/a> has now been converted into the V\u00eda Verde de la Foz. It is a linear trekking<\/strong> and very easy to do 2 miles round trip.<\/span><\/p>\n
As a curiosity we will say that a part of the path was also a royal road.<\/strong> And also part of the French route of the road to Santiago<\/strong>. After the War of Independence at the beginning of the 19th century<\/a>, it was impassable.<\/span><\/p>\n
But you can still travel a part of it until you reach a bridge collapsed by French troops<\/strong> at the time. It is a short but amazing section. There are gorges and very narrow roads. There are chains installed on the sides of the rock to help. It is not recommended for those who suffer vertigo<\/span><\/p>\n

In 1990, there was an armed confrontation between ETA (terrorist organization) and the Civil Guard that patrolled the area. These facts were known as Events of the Foz de Lumbier<\/a><\/strong>.
