Remember mountain villages in Germany, Switzerland or France. Founded by a Siemens Manager 90 years ago, and has that charming European center in every corner

.

The path we went to La Cumbrecita is called Wank Hill – Underground River – Hidden Waterfall. (Cerro Wank – Rio Subterraneo – Cascada Escondida). It is absolutely necessary to do it with a guide, since from the summit on the Wank hill the trails are not signposted. For that we hire a guide at the entrance of the Villa, in a shop called Tekking La Cumbrecita.

We start the path through the town along the main street until we reach, crossing the Almbach stream (by a wooden bridge) at the foot of the Wank Hill. The ascent of Wank Hill is of moderate difficulty and lasts approximately one hour. We reach the top, which is 5.702 ft (1,715 meters) high. After a short rest, we continue our trip with the help of the guide along a path just marked towards the underground river.

We arrive at the Underground River, and if it is not in the guide we can go to the side and do not even realize its existence. The entrance to the Underground River is made through a cave or a stone channel. that make the roof of the stream.

Inside there are some gaps between the stones that let in light rays. As we move along the corridor that forms the river and the stones, it is already darker. We recommend to get headlamp and GoPro.

At the bottom of the underground river there is sand, so it is comfortable to walk. At some point during the crossing, the water reaches our waist and it is really amazing to be there. It is one of the most amazing trekking I did.

After the underground river, we headed to the waterfall hidden by an animal trail and enjoying amazing views. A walk of just over an hour and we are facing a really hidden waterfall. We see it from above and with little water, but they tell us that only in the time of thaw has more flow.

We return to the mountain village La Cumbrecita along a somewhat more marked path always downhill for approximately two hours. You can see loose animals and beautiful meadows.

In total just over five hours, moderate difficulty preparing us for the longest trekking in Villa El Chalten – Santa Cruz – Argentina

La Cumbrecita Village is a pedestrian town, with no vehicle entry, unless we stay inside the villa. If not, there is a parking lot at the entrance of the town
