Samsonite Corporation is an American company founded under the name of Shwayder Bros. Its name is derived from the biblical figure Samson. Since 1965 it is called Samsonite Corporation. It is the best known luggage brand worldwide and the largest luggage manufacturer in the world..

Samsonite 1910 - 1945
Jesse Shwayder founded Samsonite in 1910 in Denver. At that time the trips were reserved for only the upper class. Traveling was an exclusivity, and a high quality experience from transportation. So was the attention to service. Also the accessories used to carry the belongings.
In 1917 Shwayder Trunk (Original Name of Samsonite) sold 76,000 equipment annually throughout the western United States. In 1918, were finally able to market one of their quality suitcases nationally for the first time. Driven by the success of these and other products, Shwayder Trunk's tickets soared to 300,000 in 1924.
In 1930, he was able to overcome the Great Depression and, in the 1930s, his company was considered the most modern equipment brand.
In 1931, the owners diverted their attention from the equipment and changed the name of their company to Shwayder Brothers, Inc.
In 1939, a new piece of equipment that was called Samsonite was introduced. Hence, this is how the company obtains its current name.

Samsonite 1945- 1970
Immediately after the war, in 1946, the Shwayders resumed their folding equipment and furniture business and even managed to sell products for a value of 7 million during their first year of postwar production in 1946.
In the 1950s, during the Korean War, the Shwayders brothers were able to increase their equipment sales once more, and also devoted much of their time to building necessary war materials, such as bombs and hatchbacks.
The Shwayders changed their company name in 1965 to Samsonite Corporation to capitalize on the now recognized Samsonite label.
