Martin Cooper, manager of Motorola, made a call to, Joel Engel, of Bell Labs of AT&Tย on April 3, 1973, from Sixth Avenue in New York, with a prototype of Motorola DynaTac 8000X. That was a mobile phone that weighed approximately one kilo and was about 13 inches (33 cm) tall taking into account the antenna. It was the first call made from a mobile phone.
