Thomas Cook and The first Organized Tourist Trip

Thomas Cook & Son History of Tourism. The founder grew up in a Baptist family and was a fervent believer, both traveling through his region as a missionary. I work as a cabinetmaker to earn money. Influenced by his experience as a missionary, he decided to be a teetotaler at age 25. He attributed part of the great social problems of the moment to alcohol consumption.

In a way, his participation in the anti-alcohol league helped him in his work success, since his first organized trip was for a group of 500 teetotalers in 1841, from Leicester to Loughborough, a distance of 11 miles. They paid a shilling each approximately U$S 3.05 today

In April 2017, the Ministry of Interior of Italy put into effect a so-called “Daspo Urban” law. This law allows police forces to restrict access in certain areas of the localities to individuals considered a possible threat to public order, morals or public decency.

This is without necessity without the need for evidence of crime. This applies to vagabonds, but it also began to be applied to tourists within certain areas. Article 9 of the decree establishes a monetary penalty of 100 to 300 euros and an expulsion order from the place where the heho occurred and against any person. This expulsion can be for 48 hours and the recidivism reaches much higher penalties.

On the second day we started walking along the Main Street – Calle Mayor  (we passed the chocolate shop San Gines for those who have not yet had breakfast) until the Mercado de San Miguel ( see Map). This is one of the oldest markets in Madrid and is awarded as it was in its golden age.

At the end of the main street we find the Cathedral of Almudena, which is the Metropolitan Cathedral of Madrid. It began to be built in 1879 and officially ended in 1993. It can be visited every day and it is traveled in approximately one hour

 

Next to the Almudena Cathedral is the Royal Palace of Madrid. At this time, it is not the residence of the King of Spain, but only acts of protocol. It began to contribute in 1738 and was completed in 1764. It has 3418 rooms and is larger than the Palace of Versailles on the outskirts of Paris – France
